Man Alive Men’s Group
Man Alive provides a social space for adult men of all ages to come together to support each other, make new friends, build relationships, and learn new skills, with the aim of giving them an opportunity to develop their confidence, feel valued and support others in their community. The group is for individuals able to operate independently or have support from a support worker/carer.
Man Alive focusses on being a group where men can be given simple tools to improve and promote a healthy lifestyle and a positive mental wellbeing. By incorporating the 5 ways of wellbeing (give, learn, connect, get active, and take notice) and using their own skills, they can benefit other men. Generally, members in the group are referred by social prescribers (within their doctor’s surgery), other agencies or through word of mouth.
We hold breakfast on the first Friday of every month, at Springfield Allotments. The group visits local attractions and engages in light activities, some previous activities have included short bike rides, walks, woodworking activities, workshops on mens health and wellbeing as well as coming together socially.
Some of the activities include board games, indoor kurling and other social activities. The mens group has previously supported local community events, for example, the Knowle West Fest, Celebrating Age, and other local health initiatives. The group is known in the local community and continues to further expand their membership by encouraging more men to come along and play an active role, as a result of this, Man Alive continue to look for men from the following areas: Filwood, Hartcliffe, Withywood, Knowle, Hengrove, Whitchurch Stockwood, and South Bristol in general to join their group.
